Whish-Wilson, Sen Peter
Senator WHISH-WILSON: I'm not disputing that. Can we talk about Norway? As you said earlier tonight, that project has been around for decades. Sorry, Minister, but this is an example that Mr Jeremenko has put up. This was started in the nineties, and, at the time it was brought out, it was going to revolutionise the oil and gas industry with carbon capture and storage. Why is it that it's the only offshore carbon capture and storage project in the world? After over 30 years, why is it that there haven't been dozens or even hundreds more of these built? Mr Jeremenko : As I think we have already taken part of this on notice, we are happy to get some more detail around other global initiatives. But, as the minister pointed out, we are much more familiar with what is going on here in Australia. We are aware of the technology, which is global, and the fact that the scientific community agree that carbon capture and storage is a real technology, and that's why companies are investing in it.
