Senator SHOEBRIDGE: However it's described—but the total number of Australians in the ADF who are overseas who are exchanged with, assigned to, embedded in, training with and seconded to the United States military. You say it'd be in the hundreds. Do we know how many of those are deployed at the moment on US nuclear submarines? I think the term often used there is 'embedded', but it could be 'exchange'. How many are on US nuclear submarines? Adm. Johnston : I don't have that number, and it would change over a matter of weeks as people came out. As you would be aware, we have people as part of our training program on the transition pathway to the Virginia class submarines who are in that category of 'in a US submarine' for training purposes.
